ELECTIONS TO PROVINCIAL COUNCILS - 2008

 
N O T I C E

REGARDING HOLDING OF A FREE AND FAIR ELECTION

 

1. It is mandatory to produce the national identity card or an alternative identity document approved by the Department of Elections or the temporary identity card issued by the Grama Niladhari to exercise the franchise.

2. The sole authority at a polling station is the Senior Presiding Officer. He should maintain order at the Polling Station.

3. Only those entitled under the Law can enter a polling station. A notice exhibited at the polling station will indicate the persons entitled to enter a polling station.

4. All voters are requested to go early to the polling station mentioned in the poll card and exercise his franchise.

5. After casting your vote the voter is requested to immediately leave the polling station and not to remain in and around the polling station.

6. Personal guards or fire arms, or cellular phones will not be permitted inside polling stations.

7. It is unlawful to engage in the following activities within 1/2 k.m. of a polling station.

* Canvassing for votes

* Soliciting the vote of any elector

* Persuading any elector not to vote for any particular Political Party or Independent Group.

* distributing or exhibiting hand bills, placards, posters, drawing, symbols, etc.

The assistance and co-operation of all the candidates and voters are requested to conduct a free, fair and peaceful election.
